# actors deploy

> Deploy local actors to Base44

Deploy local [actors](/developers/backend/resources/actors/overview) to Base44. The command reads each actor directory and deploys the actors one at a time, reporting each one as deployed, unchanged, or error. A failed actor doesn't stop the run, and the command reports every outcome when it finishes.

Run the command from inside your project. Deploying doesn't remove remote actors that are missing locally.

By default, the actors directory is `base44/actors/`, but you can customize the path with `actorsDir` in your [project configuration](/developers/backend/overview/project-structure#config-jsonc).

The command validates actor names before it sends anything to Base44, so a single invalid name fails the whole run. An actor also can't share a name with a [backend function](/developers/backend/resources/backend-functions/overview) in the same project.

<Warning>
  Base44 creates the `ACTOR_TOKEN_SECRET` secret the first time you deploy an actor. Don't create or overwrite it. Changing it rotates the keys for your actors. Actor and function code can't read this secret.
</Warning>

## Usage

```bash theme={null}
base44 actors deploy [names...]
```

## Arguments

| Argument | Description | Required |
| - | - | - |
| `[names]` | One or more actor names to deploy, separated by spaces or commas. If you omit it, the command deploys all local actors. | No |

## Flags

| Flag | Description |
| - | - |
| `--app-id <id>` | Target the specified app. Defaults to the app linked in the current project. This command requires a local project because the actor source comes from your local files. See [Select a target app](/developers/references/cli/commands/introduction#select-a-target-app). |
