# Connecting Google Search Console
> Connect your Base44 app to Google Search Console in one click, fix verification problems, and track your clicks, searches, and indexing in your app dashboard.
Google Search Console is a free tool from Google that shows how your app appears in Google Search: which searches bring people to your app, which of your pages Google has indexed, and any problems it finds. When you connect your app to Google Search Console, Base44 sets it up for you and shows your search data right in your app dashboard.

## Choosing a connection type
Base44 gives you 2 ways to work with Search Console. They do different jobs and use separate connections, so connecting one does not set up the other.

## Connecting your app
Connect your app to Google Search Console in one click, right from your app dashboard. Base44 verifies your site with Google, adds it to Search Console, and submits your sitemap for you. All you do is approve access in a Google window.
Connecting your app to Google Search Console is rolling out gradually. If you do not have it yet, [verify your site manually](#verifying-manually) instead.
**Before you begin:** Publish your app and make sure it is open to the public. Google can only verify an app that is published and public.
**To connect your app to Google Search Console:**
1. Click **Dashboard** in your app editor.
2. Click **SEO & GEO** under **Marketing**.
3. Click **Connect Account** in the **Connect Google Search Console** card at the top of the **Overview** tab.
4. Choose your Google account and approve access in the Google window. Base44 verifies your site and submits your sitemap in a few seconds.

## Fixing verification problems
If something stops the verification, you see what went wrong at the top of the **Overview** tab on your SEO & GEO page. The **Connect Google Search Console** card shows one of these messages, with a button to fix it:
* **Publish your app first:** Click **Publish**, then click **Verify again**.
* **Google can't reach a private app:** Click **Change public access** to make your app public, then click **Verify again**.
* **SEO is turned off:** Click **Turn on SEO** so Base44 can add Google's verification tag to your app.
* **Base44 isn't allowed to add tags:** Click **Let Base44 add the tag**. Google checks your homepage for this tag.
* **Google permission missing:** Click **Grant access** and approve it in the Google window.
* **Already verified by another Google account:** Click **Use my account** to verify with your own account. The other account loses access to this property in Search Console.
* **Google couldn't verify your site:** Wait a moment, then click **Verify again**.

## Reading your data
Once your site is verified, the **Google Search Console** card shows your search data from Google, updated daily.
**Waiting on Google:**
* If your site was already verified in Search Console, your full history shows up right away. For a new property, Search Console usually shows its first data 24 to 48 hours after you connect, and full coverage takes 2 to 4 weeks. Search data always runs about 2 days behind.
* To ask Google to check a new or updated page sooner, open **URL inspection** in Search Console, enter the page's full URL, and click **Request indexing** if it is available.
### Opening your data
The card sits at the top of the **Overview** tab on your SEO & GEO page.
**To open your Search Console data:**
1. Click **Dashboard** in your app editor.
2. Click **SEO & GEO** under **Marketing**.
3. Find the **Google Search Console** card at the top of the **Overview** tab.
4. Choose **7 days**, **28 days**, or **3 months** at the top of the card.
5. To see the full report in Google, click **Open in Search Console**.
### Understanding the card
The top of the **Google Search Console** card on your SEO & GEO page shows how people find your app on Google:
* **Search performance:** Your clicks, impressions, click rate (CTR), and average position, where 1 is the top result. Each is compared with the previous period, with daily charts of clicks and impressions.
* **Top searches:** What people typed into Google to find your app, with the clicks, impressions, CTR, and position for each. A **New** badge marks searches that just started showing up.
* **Top pages:** The pages people landed on from Google.
### Checking indexing and suggestions
Below the tables, the **Google Search Console** card shows how much of your app Google has indexed, and what you can do to improve your results:
* **On Google:** How many of your pages Google has indexed. Each page that is not indexed yet is marked **Waiting**, **Excluded**, or **Error**.
* **Sitemap:** Whether Google read your sitemap successfully, when it last read it, and how many pages it found.
* **Opportunities from your search data:** Suggestions based on your own results:
* **A page that gets seen but not clicked, or a search close to the top of page 1:** Click **Fix with AI** and the AI rewrites that page's title for you.
* **Pages that are not on Google yet, or a sitemap Google cannot read:** Click **Resubmit sitemap** to ask Google to look again.

## Disconnecting your app
Disconnect Google Search Console to stop showing your search data in Base44. Your site stays verified in your Google Search Console account, so you can still open it there or connect it again later.
**To disconnect Google Search Console:**
1. Click **Dashboard** in your app editor.
2. Click **SEO & GEO** under **Marketing**.
3. Click **Disconnect** at the top of the **Google Search Console** card on the **Overview** tab.

## Verifying manually
If you do not see the **Connect Google Search Console** card on the **Overview** tab of your SEO & GEO page yet, verify your app in Google Search Console yourself. You add Google's verification tag to your app's code, then submit your sitemap in Search Console. You can also use this method if you prefer to set up Search Console on your own.
Work through each step in order:
1. Go to [Google Search Console](https://search.google.com/search-console/about).
2. Sign in with your Google account.
3. Click **Start now** or **Add property** if you already have other sites or apps connected.
1. Select the **URL prefix** option in the property setup dialog.
2. Enter your full app URL, including protocol (for example, `https://www.yourdomain.com` or `https://project-name-abc123.base44.app/`).
3. Click **Continue**.
Make sure you are verifying the full URL, including `https://` and any `www` or subdomain.
1. Expand the **HTML tag** method on the **Verify ownership** page.
2. Copy the meta tag code snippet that looks like:
```html theme={null}
```
Do not edit the `content` value.
You now need to place this meta tag inside the `` of your app so Google can see it.
**To add the verification tag:**
1. Click **Dashboard** in your app editor.
2. Click the **Code** tab.
3. Click `index.html` in the file list to open it.
4. Paste the verification meta tag anywhere inside the `` section, without changing the `content` value.
5. Click **Save**, then click **Publish** so the change is live at the URL you entered in Google Search Console.
Do not remove the verification meta tag from `index.html`, or your property may lose its verified status.
1. Return to Google Search Console.
2. Click **Verify** under the HTML tag method.
3. If Google finds the meta tag on your homepage, you see a success message confirming that ownership is verified.
If verification fails, check that:
* The meta tag appears in the `` of the live site (not just in preview).
* The tag matches exactly what Search Console provided.
* The URL in Search Console matches the URL of your published app, including protocol, subdomain, and path.
Base44 serves your sitemap at `/sitemap.xml` on your custom domain.
1. Select your verified property in Google Search Console.
2. Click **Sitemaps** in the left menu.
3. In the **Add a new sitemap** field, enter:

sitemap.xml
```
The full path is usually `https://www.yourdomain.com/sitemap.xml`.
4. Click **Submit**.
Google then uses this sitemap to discover and process your app's pages more efficiently.
