# Academic discount

> Get 50% off a Starter or Builder plan if you study, teach, or work at an academic institution.

Students, teachers, and staff at academic institutions can get 50% off a Starter or Builder plan by verifying a school email address. The discount is one-time and applies to your first paid subscription.

## Discount details

The discount gives you 50% off, and how long it lasts depends on your billing cycle:

| Billing cycle | Discount                    |
| ------------- | --------------------------- |
| Monthly       | 50% off for up to 12 months |
| Annual        | 50% off for the first year  |

The discount applies to the **Starter** and **Builder** plans.

## Who is eligible

Students, teachers, and staff qualify at K-12 schools, colleges, universities, and other accredited academic institutions.

To claim the discount, you need a school email address that Base44 recognizes, and access to that inbox so you can enter the verification code.

  The discount can be claimed once per verified email address, and once per account. You can use a personal email for your Base44 account, since the school email is only used to confirm your eligibility. The discount applies to personal subscriptions only, not to team workspace billing.

## How to claim the discount

The discount offer appears as a banner on the [Plans](https://app.base44.com/billing) page. Click the banner to open the verification flow and complete the steps below.

### Step 1: Verify your school email

Enter your school or university email address. Base44 checks it against a list of recognized academic domains, including .edu, .ac.uk, .ac.il, and other academic domains. The list is expanded regularly, so a domain that wasn't recognized before may be now.

  If your domain is not recognized yet, [contact Base44 support](/Community-and-support/Contacting-support) so the team can review it. Approved domains are usually added within 7 days, so check back and try again.

### Step 2: Confirm the verification code

Base44 sends a 6-digit code to the email address you entered. Enter the code to confirm that you have access to that inbox.

### Step 3: Complete the survey

Answer a few short questions to complete your verification:

* **Role:** Student or Teacher
* **Field of study or field of teaching**
* **Expected graduation date**
* **What you plan to use Base44 for**

Click **Activate discount** to apply the discount to your account.

## Purchasing with the discount

Once you complete verification, the discount is applied at checkout when you subscribe to a Starter or Builder plan.

**To purchase a plan with the discount:**

1. Click your workspace name at the bottom left of your account.
2. Click **Settings**.
3. Click **Plan and billing**.
4. Click **Subscribe** on the Starter or Builder plan.
5. Select your billing cycle. The discounted price is shown before you confirm.
6. Click **Continue to Checkout** and complete your purchase.

  <Accordion title="My email domain is not recognized. What can I do?">
    If your school email is not recognized automatically, [contact Base44 support](/Community-and-support/Contacting-support) and provide your email domain. The team reviews it and adds it to the recognized domain list if it qualifies, usually within 7 days. Check back after that and try verifying again.

  <Accordion title="Do I need to change the email address on my Base44 account?">
    No. Your school email is only used to verify that you qualify. If your Base44 account uses a personal email, you can keep it.

  <Accordion title="Does the discount renew automatically?">
    On a monthly plan, the 50% discount applies for up to 12 consecutive months and then expires. On an annual plan, the 50% discount applies to the first year only. After the discount period ends, your plan renews at the standard rate.

  <Accordion title="Can I apply the academic discount and a promo code at the same time?">
    No. The academic discount and a promo code cannot be combined. If you have both, the academic discount is applied automatically at checkout.

  <Accordion title="What happens if I cancel my plan during the discount period?">
    If you cancel your plan, you lose access to the discount. The academic discount can only be claimed once and cannot be reactivated after cancellation, so if you resubscribe later you are charged at the standard rate.

  <Accordion title="Can I keep my discount if I upgrade my plan?">
    No. The discount applies once, to your first discounted purchase. If you haven't used it yet, it applies at checkout on any eligible purchase, including an upgrade to a Starter or Builder plan. Once you've used it, it doesn't transfer: if you upgrade to a higher plan, the new plan is charged at the standard rate.
